First impression out of the box is this thing is beefy and slick looking! It's got a heft to it that feels awesome. There was a card in the box with a link to a page with instructional installation videos, however, there was not one for the Tacoma (4th gen). As of the time of writing this review, doing a quick search on AJT's Youtube page, I didn't find a Taco installation video, however, I did find a Tundra installation video for this shifter, which I found nearly identical my installation, so after watching, I felt confident to proceed. (Installation notes: Although the video recommends a small screwdriver, I ended up using a paper clip to push out and remove the retaining pin mentioned in the video as there's not enough space for a small flat screwdriver (even a tiny one) to get deep enough to push the pin out far enough to release the shifter on the 4th gen handle due to the design. Simply pull down the boot to release as mentioned and then push out the set pin (with a paperclip), and that's all that's needed to release the factory shifter head--you don't have to remove the collar between the shifter head and shifter). The AJT design is self-centering so the shifter looks perfectly oriented automatically. It took about 15 minutes, taking my time to remove the factory shifter and install the new one and I love the results. This shifter feels awesome in my palm, and has a oh, so smooth, sturdy, and well built feel and visual appeal. The added mass, being solid milled aluminum, makes the shifter feel better weighted and less toy-like when shifting as the factory shifter feels. The mill fit and finish is clean and it has a super smooth button action.
